Last day of September for 2024

Last day of September. The days have gotten shorter, the warmth of the day has become cooler and the waning of the year is coming.

This idea of having someone who controls that sort of thing came to me some years ago and I drew up what this character should look like in one of my sketchbooks. Looking as though he'd seen it all and was just waiting for one slip up to bring the year into the first part of winter, where everything would be shut down for a while. The wings on his head are to indicate how time flys by so quickly.

The characters in the background are meant to be helpers, even though they look somewhat evil.

End of September

Saturday Morning Doodle for this weekend!

Since we are moving more into Autumn weather now and the leaves are changing colors and starting to fall off the trees, I saw a few fall in the moonlight recently and thought how beautiful that was.

Absent the color needed for this scene, at least I made a doodle. Perhaps one of these days I'll get around to doing a color version with much more detail.

Enjoy the last few days of September everyone!

This week's WRAP

This week's WRAP (Wednesday Random Art Post) is a drawing from one of my old sketchbooks, using a polychromos dark blue #19 pencil.

So many of the drawings in my sketchbooks can seem bizarre and are usually a combination of so many influences. I use those sketchbooks to experiment with characters and backgrounds. I try to put the characters in my sketchbooks in situations that make sense in the real world but may not look like the real world. Overlaying visuals that I find interesting and varied.

Goodbye Summer

For this weekend's Saturday morning Doodle: (back at it after a month off from doing this every weekend)

Today is the last day of Summer. For me it's a depressing thought that this season is over. Our summers in the PNW are very short and some of them are dark, cold and rainy, like this summer. Not much warmth or sun for most of those three months. And it looks like we will have a slight break next week when the temps go up into the 70s. Yay!

For me this means more trips down to where the sun lives in the winter to get a dose of happiness. Adios my friend, summer.

WRAP for this week

Today's WRAP (Wednesday Random Art Post) from one of my old sketchbooks.

Sometimes the pages in my sketchbooks have drawings that are inspired by a variety of things I see on any given day, thoughts I have about one thing or another and make a visual statement. This one is about lobbyists. It speaks for itself.
Every so often I think I should make a graphic novel series based on this one.

Art Studio

One side of my art studio on the bottom floor

INKY FRIDAY!!

Summer is down to a few precious handfuls and still I want to draw it and show it for what fun can be had while the sun is still up and there is warmth. (not here in the PNW of course, because it's been cold and dark throughout August and September this year)
Take this drawing for what it is, without explaining the need to have a very large cold drink on the beach. Enjoy what's left of summer and have a great weekend.

Art Station

10 months later, still looking for work. The longest I've ever gone without a new job coming my way has been a year. Nearing that now, in the wake of responding to job posts of about 25 per month,... no responses except AI/robot responses. Not putting "Key Words" into resumes can be problematic. What are those key words for what I do for a living? Illustration, Illustrator, Art, Concept Art, Visual Development,...? I put all those in there and more.

Yet, all I hear are,... tumbleweeds blowing by... ssssssshhhhhhh, thik, thik, thik...

Come on companies! I can make your day (ideas come to life!) 😀

P.S... I just started with ArtStation, so my page is a work in progress. Stay tuned.

Poopy Do

This week's WRAP (Wednesday Random Art Post) is a blue polychromos #19 drawing from some years ago in one of my old sketchbooks.

When working for game companies one often has to bend one's style and ideas to the will of the project, which is totally fine and I love to do that.
But in my free time I needed to free my mind and that would take shape in some strange and fun concepts. The Id, such as it is helps artists to inform them from the unconscious and is reliant on the gratification of impulse and desire.
When I was looking through that sketchbook folder and found this drawing I thought it was a prime example of that process.
